Wildlife officials say at least 16 dead dolphins have washed up on northeast Florida beaches. SeaWorld

Wildlife officials say at least 16 dead dolphins have washed up on northeast Florida beaches.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported dead dolphins were found on beaches from Volusia County to Jacksonville between Saturday and Monday.

Volusia County Beach Safety and Ocean Rescue spokeswoman Tammy Marris says five dolphins were collected Monday, including two in Volusia County. She says the water was "pretty rough" because of high winds in the area.

In addition, NOAA fisheries spokeswoman Allison Garrett says 11 other dolphins were recovered over the weekend.

Federal officials fear the morbillivirus would make its way to Florida as dolphins migrate south. Garrett says all the dolphins found over the weekend appeared to have symptoms of the virus.

The newspaper reports that a similar outbreak killed 782 dolphins in 1987-88. - NBC Miami.

Thousands Of Dead Fish Found In Lake Owasso, Minnesota.

Thousands of fish were found dead under the ice on Lake Owasso in Shoreview, Minn. because of what may be a lack of oxygen in the water.

The massive fish kill comes just before the ice fishing season and includes trophy-sized walleye, muskie and bass. The ice formed on the lake last week and many people that live nearby and fish on the lake have never see anything like this.

"I am sick to my stomach and worried this lake is connected to other lakes," said Jason Nelson.

Neighbors noticed the fish kill on Thanksgiving and took pictures of the fish they pulled from the lake. They are at a loss to explain why so many of the fish are dying in such large numbers early in the season.

Some believe the fish are not getting enough oxygen – something that is a problem later in the winter. Others fear a chemical weed killer sprayed in the lake caused the fish kill.

"These are sport fish. This is one of the better fishing lakes in the area and we would like to know what the cause of the fish kill is," Nelson said.

Some people have tried to revive the fish by pulling them out, but they are usually too lethargic to swim away.

The Minnesota DNR is expected to come to Lake Owasso on Monday to take water samples and test the fish. They have oxygenated the water in the past, but that is typically done in the spring. - MyFOX9.

Hundreds, Maybe Thousands, Of Dead Birds Wash Ashore On St. Lawrence Island, Alaska.

Nature's cold brutality apparently marked hundreds -- and perhaps thousands -- of seabirds for death following storms that slammed into Western Alaska earlier this month and littered stretches of St. Lawrence Island with the carcasses of crested auklets, murres, ducks and other birds.

Facebook alarmists feared Fukushima radiation was to blame for the deaths that began appearing last week, but an expert said the island between Russia and the Alaska mainland is too far north for that to be possible. And Savoonga residents who walked the beaches to calculate the carnage said they're convinced this fall's powerful winter storms are the real culprit.

Residents in the village of Gambell -- about 40 miles west of Savoonga on the island -- also found dead birds near their village, said Peter Bente, a wildlife biologist with the state Fish and Game.

The expanse of the death zone and the variety of birds -- cormorants and northern fulmars were also found -- suggest storms that recently lashed the region with powerful gusts may be the culprit, said Bente. Winds up to 60 mph and huge waves may have exhausted the seabirds and separated feathers that usually protect them from the Bering Sea's frigid waters.

Still, samples of the carcasses were sent to the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, Wis., for testing.

Perry Pungowiyi, a Savoonga hunter, said he counted more than 200 crested auklets on one beach. He also saw gulls and murres, though far fewer of those species. "Elders around town occasionally, when the numbers get so large, they naturally die off," he said.

Dead birds washed up on other beaches near Savoonga as well, he said. The victims were nearly all young. Most were auklets that lacked the bright orange beaks found on adults. They looked healthy and well-fed and had all their plumage, he said.

That's a contrast to the scores of dead and sick ringed seals -- some with open wounds, unusual hair loss and internal ulcers -- that began washing up in summer 2011 in Western Alaska.

Even today, a few seals continue to trickle ashore, biologists said. But the cause of the illness remains a mystery, despite an international effort to identify it. Some people believe radiation from the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster in Japan in March 2011 is a factor. That's never been proven. It hasn't been disqualified, either.

A lack of radiation sampling in remote regions after the explosion means no one knows how much airborne radiation fell into the Bering Sea ice, or whether seals were in the vicinity of any fallout, said Doug Dasher, a researcher with the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

If the seals did ingest radiation, much of it would have been excreted out of the body before the testing of the carcasses that occurred several months after the incident, he said. Such testing found radiation levels similar to those found in the mid 1990s.

St. Lawrence Island is "way too far north for the marine transport to occur right now," Dasher said.

Still, for a community that harvests animals from the Bering Sea, its hard not to think about Fukushima, said Pungowiyi. He said he was getting ready to go seal hunting: Winds blowing in from the north have made for prime seal-hunting conditions.

"It's always on the backs of our minds," he said of the radiation. - Alaska Dispatch.

Hundreds Of Dead Fish Found Floating Along The Harbor And Canals In Charlotte County.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is trying to figure out what caused a number of fish kills over the weekend along Charlotte Harbor.

Hundreds of dead fish were found floating along the harbor and in the canals near Punta Gorda Isles, and the mouth of Charlotte Harbor.  Scientist took samples, but results won't be back until next week.

In the meantime, FWC is reporting redtide being detected in the harbor currently.  Anyone who spots a fish kill is urged to contact FWC's fish kill hotline. - My Sun Coast.

INFRASTRUCTURE & SOCIETAL COLLAPSE: Fast & Furious - Actor Paul Walker Killed In A Fireball Explosion After Porsche Crashes!

November 30, 2013 - UNITED STATES - Paul Walker, best known for his role in the hit Fast & Furious movies, died Saturday afternoon in a car accident in Valencia, Calif., The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. He was 40.

Engulfed: This witness photo shows the Porsche completely engulfed by flames after the driver lost control,
hitting a pole and killing himself and Paul Walker

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department said that the crash happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 28300 block of Rye Canyon Loop. "When they arrived, deputies found the vehicle engulfed in flames," a statement read. "The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded, extinguished the fire and subsequently located two victims inside the vehicle. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene."

As of 8 p.m., the road was still closed, and two Los Angeles local TV stations had sent news vans to the location.

Walker was in what police described as a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT when the single-car accident happened. The car reportedly burst into flames, with one of Walker's friends telling the local newspaper they "went through fire extinguishers" in a futile bid to fight the blaze. "We tried, we tried," Antonio Holmes told the Santa Clarita Signal.

Walker was the passenger in the car; AM radio station KHTS reports Roger Rodas, the CEO of Walker's company Always Evolving, was the driver and the car's owner and died as well. Walker reportedly owned a pair of high-performance car companies in Valencia.

Walker was in the area, just north of Los Angeles, for a car show and toy drive set up through his charity, Reach Out WorldWide. In 2010, he flew to Chile to help those injured in the 8.8 magnitude earthquake and earlier was involved in the effort to assist survivors of the earthquake in Haiti.

Burnt out: The charred remains of the cherry-red Porsche Carrera which Paul Walker, who had
turned 40 in September, died in after it crashed on Saturday afternoon

He is survived by his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.

Walker was reprising his role as Brian O'Conner in Universal's Fast & Furious 7 for director James Wan. The movie had recently begun filming in Atlanta and was set to move to Abu Dhabi in January but was on a break from shooting for the Thanksgiving holiday. The seventh film in the blockbuster action franchise has been slotted to hit theaters July 11.

The blue-eyed Walker, who described himself on his Twitter page as an "adrenaline junkie," did many stunts in the Fast & Furious movies himself. He starred in a 2010 National Geographic Channel series Expedition Great White, on which he spent 11 days as part of a crew that caught and tagged great white sharks off the coast of Mexico. His hobbies included riflery and archery.

Walker was starring in the upcoming Brick Mansions, now in postproduction. The film, from EuropaCorp and Relativity Media, is an English-language remake of the 2004 French action movie District B13. Meanwhile, his Hurricane Katrina drama Hours is due out in theaters Dec. 13.

Walker's official Facebook fan page posted a statement just after 7 p.m. Saturday:

"It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out WorldWide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. - #TeamPW"

Universal issued a statement at around 7:45 p.m.:

"All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the Fast and Furious films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul's family."

Aftermath: Firefighters attend the scene where Paul Walker died when the car he was a
passenger in crashed into a pole and a tree

A statement from Relativity president Tucker Tooley echoed the sentiment:

"We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Paul Walker. Paul was an incredibly talented artist, devoted philanthropist and friend. Our hearts go out to his family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them."

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson took to Twitter to express grief: "All my strength, love & faith to the Walker family during this heartbreaking time. We find our strength.. in his light. Love you brother."

Walker was born on Sept. 12, 1973, in Glendale, not far from where he perished. He was brought up in a traditional Mormon family and went to Village Christian High in Sun Valley, Calif. His mother taught him how to drive, and his first car was a 1986 Ford Ranger pickup truck.

He starred in a commercial for Pampers as a toddler, made his TV debut on the family drama Highway to Heaven in 1985 and a couple of years later scored a role in the syndicated sitcom Throb as the 12-year-old son of a divorcee who gets a job at a record company.

Walker appeared in such shows as Who's the Boss?, The Young and the Restless and Touched by an Angel and in the 1998 films Meet the Deedles and Gary Ross' Pleasantville before attracting attention by starring as a gutsy high school quarterback who suffers a career-ending knee injury in Varsity Blues (1999).

After roles in She's All That (1999) and The Skulls (2000), the handsome Walker joined the cast of 2001's The Fast and the Furious, which was loosely based on a magazine article about street clubs that race Japanese cars late at night. His character, O'Conner, was an undercover police officer.

Walker described how he came to the film in an interview in May with Motor Trend magazine.

"I love Donnie Brasco and Days of Thunder, so after I did The Skulls, I was like, 'I want to be either an undercover cop or I want to race cars!' " he said. "Universal came to me with a newspaper article about street racing in L.A. and I was like, 'Are you kidding me? I grew up doing that right off Peoria in Sun Valley.' They asked if I wanted to do it. There wasn't even a screenplay, there was nothing, but I was like … 'F-- yeah, I want to do it!' "

The movie grossed $207 million at the worldwide box office and sold a huge number of DVDs for Universal.

Walker returned for the 2003 sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious but sat out the next installment before returning to reignite the lagging franchise with 2009's Fast & Furious.

"I did get sick of the endless questions about why I wasn't in the third one," he once said. "The fans were really ticked off. It was as if I had let them down."

Walker then stuck around for 2011's Fast Five and this summer's Fast & Furious 6 (2013) -- which raked in nearly $789 million around the globe.

His other credits include Flags of Our Fathers, Eight Below and Into the Blue. - Hollywood Reporter.

DOOMSDAY: Disaster Preparedness - Europe Announces Disaster Communication Plans For Nuclear Emergency?!

November 30, 2013 - EUROPE - A project backed by 43 organisations is preparing Europe to react and communicate effectively in case of a nuclear emergency, drawing on the lessons of the Fukushima accident.

The project, known as PREPARE, brings together national nuclear emergency centres, universities and safety authorities from 20 European countries, including Germany, Italy, Belgium, Norway and Ukraine and has €4 million ($5.4 million) in funding from the EU Framework Program for Research (FP7).

Project work - expected to be finalised in early 2016 - will focus on what to do in case of long-lasting radiation releases, as seen during the Fukushima accident. Researchers will develop a system to collect and exchange information quickly and reliably during a rapidly-evolving emergency situation, and develop procedures and policies for dealing with potentially contaminated goods. Employees of nuclear emergency centres, safety authorities, agriculture ministries will be trained to use the tools and methods resulting from PREPARE.

"Before Fukushima, emergency plans were designed in general for releases of a few days, but at Fukushima we saw releases for up to one month and then also smaller releases," said Johan Camps, head of the Crisis Management and Decision unit at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre told World Nuclear News.

One PREPARE tool will be used to evaluate an accident in its entirety, according to the project coordinator Wolfgang Raskob, of the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology in Germany. "We are planning to set up a database with historic events and calculation scenarios and then compare the incoming information with the information in the database."

Actions on food and other consumer goods coming from an area affected by a nuclear emergency have previously been inconsistent across Europe. Taking the example of Fukushima, Raskob noted that each European country had different rules and limits. One of the aims of the project is to recommend a procedure to set contamination limits to be used at European level when dealing with goods coming from the affected area, he explained.

Fourteen of the European Union's 28 member states use nuclear power, as do non-EU neighbours Russia,
Switzerland and Ukraine. The entire continent as far east as the Ural mountains includes 50 countries
and a total of 179 nuclear power reactors

Improvements to the monitoring of terrestrial and aquatic systems following a nuclear accident are also envisaged, as are better plans for informing the public during an emergency.

Media angle

"We took Fukushima as a case study and looked at how it was communicated among the experts, but also from the experts to the public and to how the media reported it,"  Tanja Perko, researcher at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre, told WNN.

Perko noted big differences between European countries in the way the media reported about Fukushima. Some media focused on the safety of their own nuclear plants, others dealt with the issue of incoming contaminated goods, while some reported mainly on the developments in Japan. "We saw the word 'referendum' in more than 60% of the media articles we analysed from Italy," Perko explained, pointing out the potentially powerful link between media coverage and political events. - World Nuclear News.

FIRE IN THE SKY: Huge Meteor Fireball Fragments Seen Over Queensland, Australia - Eye-Witness Described It As "Comet-Like With Many Tails"!

November 29, 2013 - AUSTRALIA - The stars aligned for some lucky Fraser Coast sky watchers on Wednesday evening.

File illustration.

Dozens of people reported seeing what was believed to be a meteorite crossing the sky about 8pm.

Cassandra Perry was among those who caught a glimpse and shared her experience on the Fraser Coast Chronicle's Facebook page.

"Yes, I saw a light moving fast through the sky, so I ran outside and saw it was a meteor," she said.

"I could see it burning up, looked like it had a tail similar to what fireworks looks like, an awesome sight."

Commenter Sally Mackay said she saw it with her daughter as they were leaving a school awards night.

Another Facebook poster, Florence McMaster, said she saw it too but was too awe-struck to capture a photo.

"It was comet-like with long tails ... we and another couple saw it, much slower than a shooting star and (there were) several moving together."

Hervey Bay Astronomical Society president Joe Mather said he saw a couple of meteorites on Wednesday night.

"It's staggering," he said.

Mr Mather said during the past week there had been some incredible sightings.

He said meteorites were often created from debris left by a comet and gravity attracted them to Earth. - Sunshine Coast Daily.

FIRE IN THE SKY: Comet ISON Lives - The "Comet Of The Century" Sweeps Near The Sun, Shows Sign Of Life!

November 29, 2013 - SPACE - Hold the obituary. Experts now think Comet ISON -- or at least part of it -- survived its close encounter with the sun.

Karl Battams, a comet scientist for the Naval Research Laboratory, said it is believed some parts of ISON's nucleus survived perihelion.

Comet ISON appears as a white smear heading up and away from the sun on Thursday, November 28.
Scientists initially thought the comet had been disintegrated by the sun, but images suggest
a small nucleus may still be intact.

"It now looks like some chunk of ISON's nucleus has indeed made it through the solar corona, and re-emerged," he said. "It's throwing off dust and (probably) gas, but we don't know how long it can sustain that."

However, he said, its fate is uncertain.

"Now it has emerged and started to brighten, we need to observe it for a few days to get a feel for its behavior," Battams said.

ISON swept about 730,000 miles over the sun's surface Thursday about 2 p.m. ET.

A fleet of spacecraft watched ISON plunge toward the sun, including NASA's STEREO satellite, the European Space Agency/NASA SOHO spacecraft and the Solar Dynamics Observatory.

Comets are giant snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust that can be several miles in diameter. When they get near the sun, they warm up and spew some of the gas and dirt, creating tails that can stretch for thousands of miles.

Most comets are in the outer part of our solar system. When they get close enough for us to see, scientists study them for clues about how our solar system formed.

Astronomers Vitali Nevski and Artyom Novichonok discovered ISON last year using a telescope near Kislovodsk, Russia.

ISON -- officially named C/2012 S1 -- was 585 million miles away at the time. Its amazing journey through the solar system had been chronicled by amateur astronomers and by space telescopes.

"From the beginning, ISON has confused, surprised and amazed us, and in hindsight its latest little escapade really should not shock us," Battams said. "Nonetheless, this has been one of the most extraordinary comets we have ever encountered, and just goes to reiterate how beautiful, dynamic and exciting our universe is."

Observers have been watching the comet for more than a year, hoping it would survive its sunbath and emerge to put on a sky show, visible to the naked eye in the Northern Hemisphere.

Comet ISON is seen, top left, after its close encounter with the sun on November 28. In this picture, called
a coronagraph, the bright light of the sun is blocked so the structures around it are visible.

Comet ISON moves close to the sun at 10:51 a.m. ET on November 28.

Comet ISON's position is seen near the sun at 9:30 a.m. ET on November 28. This composite image
comes from NASA and the European Space Agency.

Earlier Thursday, NASA scientists had pretty much declared ISON dead at the end of a Google Hangout to watch the comet swing by the sun. But professional and amateur astronomers were undeterred by the reports and kept analyzing NASA satellites. They found images that clearly show something emerging from the sun.

"What we see here is the dust tail emerging first, pointing away from the sun," said Padma Yanamandra-Fisher with the Space Science Institute and a member of the ISON Observing Campaign.

A video made by observing campaign member John Maclean shows the comet slicing toward the sun and then something -- apparently ISON -- emerging from the other side. Maclean is a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society at Norman Lockyer Observatory Sidmouth in Devon, England.

The discovery stunned many in the comet-watching community and led some to nickname ISON the zombie comet.

Others repeated an old joke about comets and cats.

"Comets are like cats; they have tails, and they do precisely what they want," David H. Levy said.

This comet also seems to have something else in common with cats -- nine lives. - CNN.

COMET ISON LIVES (UPDATED): Cancel the funeral. Comet ISON is back from the dead. Yesterday, Nov. 28th, Comet ISON flew through the sun's atmosphere and appeared to disintegrate before the cameras of several NASA and ESA spacecraft. This prompted reports of the comet's demise. Today, the comet has revived and is rapidly brightening. Click to view a SOHO coronagraph movie of the solar flyby (updated Nov. 29 @ 1800 UT):

Before the flyby, experts had made many predictions about what might happen to the comet, ranging from utter disintegration to glorious survival. No one predicted both.

Karl Battams of NASA's Comet ISON Observing Campaign says, "[colleague] Matthew Knight and I are ripping our hair out right now as we know that so many people in the public, the media and in science teams want to know what's happened. We'd love to know that too! Right now, here's our working hypothesis:

"As comet ISON plunged towards to the Sun, it began to fall apart, losing not giant fragments but at least a lot of reasonably sized chunks. There's evidence of very large dust in the long thin tail we saw in the [SOHO coronagraph] images. Then, as ISON plunged through the corona, it continued to fall apart and vaporize, losing its coma and tail completely just like sungrazing Comet Lovejoy did in 2011. What emerged from the Sun was a small but perhaps somewhat coherent nucleus that has resumed emitting dust and gas for at least the time being."

Battams emphasizes that it is too soon to tell how big the remnant nucleus is or how bright the resurgent comet will ultimately become. "We have a whole new set of unknowns, and this ridiculous, crazy, dynamic and unpredictable object continues to amaze, astound and confuse us to no end. We ask that you please be patient with us for a couple of days as we analyze the data and try to work out what is happening."

Astrophotographer Babak Tafreshi has edited an HD video that compares views of ISON from both of SOHO's coronagraphs. "It seems the comet could become a naked eye object with several degrees of scattered tail by Dec 2nd or 3rd," he predicts. "It's not the comet of the century for sure, and fainter than the Lovejoy sungrazer in Dec. 2011, but an interesting imaging target is just a few nights away!" - Space Weather.

PLAGUES & PESTILENCES: New, Aggressive HIV Strain Causes AIDS Faster!

November 29, 2013 - HEALTH - A new and more aggressive strain of HIV discovered in West Africa causes significantly faster progression to AIDS, researchers at Sweden's Lund University said Thursday.

The new strain of the virus that causes AIDS, called A3/02, is a fusion of the two most common HIV strains in Guinea-Bissau. It has so far only been found in West Africa.

"Individuals who are infected with the new recombinant form develop AIDS within five years, and that's about two to two-and-a-half years faster than one of the parent (strains)," said Angelica Palm, one of the scientists responsible for the study based on a long-term follow-up of HIV-positive people in Guinea-Bissau.

Recombinant virus strains originate when a person is infected by two different strains, whose DNA fuse to create a new form.

"There have been some studies that indicate that whenever there is a so-called recombinant, it seems to be more competent or aggressive than the parental strains," said Palm of the study published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

The strain was first discovered by the Swedish team in Guinea-Bissau in 2011.

According to researchers, the speed with which A3/02 leads to people falling ill from AIDS does not impact on the effectiveness of medication on infected individuals.

"The good news is that as far as we know the medicines that are available today are equally functional on all different subtypes of variants," Palm said.

The study warns that such recombinants may be spreading fast, especially in regions with high levels of immigration, such as Europe or the United States.

"It is highly likely that there are a large number of circulating recombinants of which we know little or nothing," said Patrik Medstrand, professor of clinical virology at Lund University.

Some 35.3 million people around the world are living with HIV, which destroys the immune system and has caused more than 25 million deaths since AIDS first emerged in the early 1980s, according to the World Health Organisation.

Existing treatments help infected people live longer, healthier lives by delaying and subduing symptoms, but do not cure AIDS. Many people in poor communities do not have access to the life-giving drugs, and there is no vaccine. - Terra Daily.

PLANETARY TREMORS: Moderate Earthquake Hits Near Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Plant - Kills 7, Injures 45!

November 29, 2013 - IRAN - An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 struck a town Thursday in southern Iran, killing seven people while causing no damage at the country’s only nuclear power plant, state television reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the temblor struck some 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) northeast of Borazjan. It hit some 60 kilometers (38 miles) north of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which is near the port city of the same name.

The website for state television carried a statement from the plant’s operators saying it sustained no damage in the quake.

Bushehr province Gov. Fereidoun Hasanvand told state television that 45 people were injured. Many people fled their homes during the earthquake, fearful the buildings would crash down on them, local media reported.

Those living in neighboring provinces also felt the quake.

The quake's epicentre was near Borazjan, around 35 miles from Bushehr, where Iran has its Russian-built reactor.

In April, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake killed at least 37 people and injured hundreds in a town near Bushehr. The nuclear plant wasn’t damaged then.

Iran is located in a zone of tectonic compression where the Arabian plate is moving into the Eurasian plate, leaving more than 90 percent of the country crisscrossed by seismic fault lines.

Nine quakes that hit Iran in the last decades were more than magnitude 6, including a 2003 temblor that killed at least 26,000 people in the city of Bam.

Scientists say more fault lines likely will be discovered in the country and more major quakes are only a matter of time. - NY Daily News.

MASS BIRD DIE-OFF: Tens Of Thousands Of Dead Birds Have Washed Ashore During The Past Couple Of Months On Beaches In Australia?!

November 28, 2013 - AUSTRALIA - Lindsay Dines has been watching dead mutton birds wash in at Teewah for more than a month.

TOO MANY DEAD: A mutton bird washed ashore

He knows death is part of their migratory fate.

Their long, figure eight of the Pacific that starts in Tasmania, touches the northern hemisphere Aleutian Islands and then California before the long journey home.

But Lindsay fears something more is at play.

The avid fisherman and environmentalist has deep concerns about the numbers dying.

"I'm told that a month ago a count was done by someone - 25,000 between Noosa North Shore and Caloundra,'' he said.

"And there are media reports of dead birds extending from Bundaberg to southern coast of Victoria, plus Tasmania and the New Zealand's west coast - in abnormally large numbers and along all beaches creating great concern in communities all along the coast.

"All birds tested by vets were found to be emaciated and starving.''

Given the range of the death and numbers being reported, Mr Dines fears as many as five million birds may have died.

When conditions are calmer, they seek out baitfish herded to the surface by tuna and other predatory fish.

"Feeding on migration is essential and is totally dependent on there being both predatory fish and baitfish along the migratory path,'' Mr Dines said.

"This year has been different to past mass deaths.

"The shearwaters are frantically trying to feed inshore in large numbers before they land on the water in the surf or not far beyond and wash in mostly alive.

"There are insufficient predatory fish present inshore to herd the baitfish for the shearwaters to feed.

"I've been watching all seabirds, including shear waters over the last few months constantly searching for food, but they are rarely finding any."

University of Canberra's Professor Nick Klomp, now deputy vice-chancellor for education, spent 20 years

researching short-tail shearwaters (mutton birds).

He said Mr Dines' theory might well be true but it needed further research.

Prof Klomp said shearwaters that had successfully completed their annual

migration were now laying eggs at their breeding grounds in southern NSW, Victoria and the islands off Tasmania.

He said there was no doubt impact of environmental factors could lead to more deaths than normal. - Sunshine Coast Daily.

Over 10 TONS Of Fish Die In The Jembayan River.
Complained to WHO: Jembayan believed polluted river. Looks citizens dead fish cultivation.

Residents Lembonang Hamlet, Village Jembayan, Loa Kulu, aquatic mammal (Kukar), really worried. The reason, they believe Jembayan river water in their everyday use for fish culture was contaminated. The reason, allegedly due to channel oil waste directed to the river. The incident started at around 3:00 pm on Wednesday early morning (20/11) ago.

Suddenly River Jembayan In presenting a scene of horror when the fish along the river and float to the surface. Looks pale and lifeless. Within an hour, more and more dead fish surfaced. Locals made a scene, especially the pembudi fish resources in the river.

Some people are known to cultivate tilapia carp from the river to supply the market Jembayan. "Dawn-dawn fish already mangap-mangap and every hour there is always dead. So continued until morning. Until the middle of the day all the dead, raised to the surface, "said Jackson, pembudi fish resources Lembonang of Hamlet, Village Jembayan, Loa Kulu.
Suddenly people suspect that something was wrong with the current river conditions. All suspicious of the oil palm plantation companies are operating not far from the scene. Group pembudi fish resources engineering team then call companion of fish feed factory so their partners. The team was asked to take a water sample to be tested. "We test the water. And, the result is the quality of the river when it was almost 1 PH, "Said he.

Jackson mentions, there are seven people pembudi fish resources in the region. And, none of which escaped from this incident. All the losers because all the fish died. Not just fish farming, fish in the river also contributed to surface as dead. "Eels up baung also dead fish," he explained. Locals pick down the river after the incident to find out the source of river pollution.

From there, it was found that the flow of water such as ditches flowing directly into the river. This trench allegedly issuing waste from oil palm plantations. "It seems deliberately opened from the swamp to the river," he explained. After a time, residents reported to the Department of Fisheries Kukar. However, the agency did not respond to a report called quickly. Residents who already panic switch reporting to Parliament.

The second day after the incident, then Parliament with relevant agencies of local government review into the field Kukar. Jackson hopes the testing by the Regional Environmental Agency (BLHD) Kukar done objectively. It is feared that there are practices flirt with oil companies suspected to be the culprit of the river pollution. The sudden death of fish in the river this time Jembayan In the new case.

Decades of efforts underway fish farming, though not the same thing applies. Since there are oil companies operating near there, allegedly river became polluted because the color change. Invisible river looks more brown. "When the incident happened, the condition of the river somewhat blackish color. But now his condition is improving, "said Jackson.

As a result of the incident, estimated at over 10 tons of dead fish cultivation. As for Jackson is Pembudi carp and tilapia power. Production of fish sold to multiple markets such as in Samarinda, Tenggarong, Balikpapan, and Sangatta. Jackson felt pretty big loss. He could not supply the fish to the market and gain capital dollars to restore the fish feed on the money already purchased. "My fish are ready to harvest existing 5 ton, dead.

I am a big loss. Not to mention the other farmers. So some sellers in the market began to feel annoyed. Demand was disrupted, "he added. In the news Kaltim Post yesterday, Jumli pembudi fish resources which also suffered losses of up to Rp 50 million. A total of 76 cages of fish died allegedly due to the flow of the river was polluted waste oil.

He refused if the death of the fish are valid because the river mud mixed. Called mud was not enough to make a dead fish. Especially in large quantities such as occurred last Wednesday. While the Head of the Regional Environmental Agency (BLHD) Kukar, Ahmad Taufik, there are six points suspect who allegedly polluted river.

Water samples were tested it, will be known about the next two weeks after passing tests in the laboratories of the University Mulawarman, Samarinda. "If it was waste because mining or plantation, we first give administrative sanction. If ignored, it is possible endless punishment, "he said two days ago. - Kaltim Post. [Translated]

FIRE IN THE SKY: Meteor Explodes Over Greece - Panicked Locals Report Fragments Falling Into The Sea!

November 28, 2013 - GREECE - A meteor hit Zakynthos, the third largest Greek island, in the Ionian Sea on Wednesday night.

File photo of a meteor entering the atmosphere, taken from the ISS last year.

Eyewitnesses said the sky lit up like day after an explosion and objects which looked like fire balls fell into the sea, according to state-run ANA-MPA news agency.

"Meteor strikes are common in Greece, it is not threatening," geology Professor Efthimyos Lekkas told an AA correspondent.

The meteor didn't cause any damage but people panicked around the region. - World Bulletin.

WATCH:  Fireball over Greece.

Many residents of Western Greece experienced a unique and incredible phenomenon at 9 pm yesterday [Wednesday] evening. Meteorologists spoke of a meteorite that was to fall in the Ionian sea.

The phenomenon was particularly noticed from the residents of Zante in the regions of Maheradou and Alikon. The residents said that they saw bright streaks across the sky from West to East, followed by an intense noise. However, there were no damages or problems reported even though the testimonies supported that the glow illuminated the homes of areas in Kefalonia.

Those who saw the bright object talked about a huge burning ball that was moving with tremendous speed. Many of them supported that they also heard a strange hollow noise. According to sources, it was a meteorite that fell in the Ionian Sea between Zante and Kefallonia.

The Fire Service of Kefalonia reported the testimony of a resident, who described the drop of a bright object in the sea between Kefalonia and Zante.

Geology Professor, Dr. Efthimios Lekkas, confirmed the phenomenon. He also pointed out that we could learn more about the meteorite after it has fallen to the ground. "I believe that it was a meteorite. Reliable witnesses of Zante and Kefalonia told me that at 9pm they saw a bright object fall from the sky into the sea, followed by noise. All the testimonies that I received revealed the same thing."

Hellas Now offers testimonials from eyewitnesses of the surrounding areas:
From Pirgy:
Regarding the meteorite, it was very noticeable around the Pyrgos area where I live, and also at Poros, where my father was, there was a noise and they were shaken a bit. It was however very noticeable even in my village which is far from the sea and high up.
From Kapandriti:
I was outside on my veranda at that time. The night from black became blue. It was coming from Kapandriti. It looked like fireworks but in the end it got on fire, and after 1-2 minutes there was a loud sound.
From Vlahata:
We also heard the sound, it was very loud... the frames of the house shuttered... as if dynamite exploded nearby... a friend wrote that Vlahata brightened as if it was daytime.
From Zakynthos:
There was a horrible Boom! and we all looked around to see what happened, we thought that it was very loud thunder.

FIRE IN THE SKY: R.I.P. Comet ISON - No Sign Of The "Comet Of The Century" After Close Pass Around The Sun?!

November 28, 2013 - SPACE - A comet's 5.5-million-year journey to the inner solar system apparently ended during a suicidal trip around the sun, leaving no trace of its once-bright tail or even remnants of rock and dust, scientists said on Thursday.

The comet, known as ISON, was discovered last year when it was still far beyond Jupiter, raising the prospect of a spectacular naked-eye object by the time it graced Earth's skies in December.

Comet ISON is pictured in this November 19, 2013 handout photo by NASA, taken using a 14-inch telescope
located at the Marshall Space Flight Center at 6:10 a.m. EST with a three-minue exposure.
Credit: Reuters/Aaron Kingery/MSFC/NASA/Handout via Reuters

Comet ISON passed just 730,000 miles (1.2 million km) from the surface of the sun at 1:37 p.m. EST/1837 GMT on Thursday. Astronomers used a fleet of solar telescopes to look for the comet after its slingshot around the sun, but to no avail.

"I'm not seeing anything that emerged from the behind the solar disk. That could be the nail in the coffin," astrophysicist Karl Battams, with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, said during a live broadcast on NASA TV."

"It's sad that it seemed to have ended this way, but we're going to learn more about this comet," he added.

At closest approach, the comet was moving faster than 217 miles per second(350 km per second) through the sun's atmosphere.

At that distance, it reached temperatures of 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit(2,760 degrees Celsius) - hot enough to vaporize not just ices in the comet's body, but dust and rock as well.

If the comet or any large fragments survived the close encounter with the sun, they would be visible to the naked eye in Earth's skies in a week or two.

The comet was discovered last year by two amateur astronomers using Russia's International Scientific Optical Network, or ISON.

Comets are believed to be frozen remains left over from the formation of the solar system some 4.5 billion years ago.

The family of comets that ISON belongs to resides in the Oort Cloud, located about 10,000 times farther away from the sun than Earth, halfway to the next star.

Occasionally, an Oort Cloud comet is gravitationally nudged out of the cloud by a passing star and into a flight path that millions of years later brings it into the inner solar system. Computer models show ISON was a first-time visitor.

"I hope we see another one soon," said Dean Pesnell, project scientist for NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. - Reuters.

COMET ISON, R.I.P? Evidence is mounting that comet ISON did not survive its brush with the sun earlier today. At 01:45 EST on Nov. 28th, Thanksgiving Day in the USA, the comet was supposed to pass a little more than a million miles above the surface of the sun. As a new movie from SOHO shows, the comet had already disintegrated. Click to set the scene in motion, and pay careful attention to the head of the comet:

In the movie, Comet ISON is clearly falling apart as it approaches the sun. Researchers working with the Solar Dynamics Observatory report that they are saw nothing along the track that ISON was expected to follow through the sun's atmosphere. Update: Nevertheless, something has emerged from the sun's atmosphere. Watch this movie all the way to the end. Whether this is a small fragment of Comet ISON's nucleus or perhaps a "headless comet"--a stream of debris marking the remains of the comet's disintegrated core--remains to be seen.

An earlier movie from SOHO shows more of the comet's approach:

The movie spans a day and a half period from Nov. 27th (01:41 UT) to 28th (15:22 UT). We see that Comet ISON brightened dramatically on Nov. 27th before fading on Nov. 28th. That brightening might have been the disintegration event, in which the comet cracked open and spilled its vaporizing contents into space.

There is still a chance that some fraction of Comet ISON has survived. (That would make ISON a headless comet--more appropriate for Halloween than Thanksgiving.) Stay tuned for more movies as we watch for debris emerging behind the occulting disk of SOHO coronagraphs..

WHICH SIDE OF THE SUN IS FACING COMET ISON? When Comet ISON sweeps through the sun's atmosphere on Nov. 28th, it will be in the 'hot zone' for CMEs. A strike by one of the massive storm clouds probably wouldn't destroy the comet, but it could have a dramatic effect on the comet's fragile tail. The odds of a strike depend on which side of the sun is facing the comet at the time of the flyby. This is something you can monitor using a NASA iPhone app called the Interplanetary 3D Sun:

The app displays an interactive 3D model of the entire sun photographed by extreme UV cameras onboard NASA's twin STEREO probes. The data are realtime and fully interactive (pinch, spin and zoom). As shown in this target list, you can view the sun from many locations around the solar system--including Comet ISON.

Active regions are color-coded by their potential for flares: Orange means "expect M-class solar flares," while red denotes sunspots capable of X-flares. In the screen shot above we see that, on Nov. 25th, Comet ISON was bearing down on an active region, AR1904, that posed a threat for M-class eruptions. What is targeting the comet today? - Space Weather.

WAR DRUMS: High Noon - China Sends Warplanes To Newly Declared Air Zone!

November 28, 2013 - EAST CHINA SEA - China has sent warplanes to its newly declared air defence zone in the East China Sea, state media reports.

The vast zone, announced last week, covers territory claimed by China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.

The zone includes a groups of islands known as Diaoyu in Chinese and Senkaku by Japan.

China has said all planes transiting the zone must file flight plans and identify themselves, or face "defensive emergency measures".

But Japan, South Korea and the US have all since flown military aircraft through the area.

The new dispute in an already tense region has raised concerns it could escalate into an unplanned military incident.

China's state news agency Xinhua quoted air force spokesman Col Shen Jinke as saying several fighter jets and an early warning aircraft had been deployed to carry out routine patrols as "a defensive measure and in line with international common practices".

He said the country's air force would remain on high alert and would take measures to deal with all air threats to protect national security.

In Xinhua's Chinese language version of the article, the colonel said the aircraft would "strengthen the monitoring of targets in the air defence zone and do their duty".

'Destabilising'

The controversial air defence identification zone (ADIZ) includes islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, which are claimed by Japan, China and Taiwan.

Japan controls the islands, which have been the focus of a bitter and long-running dispute between Japan and China.

The zone also covers a submerged rock that South Korea says forms part of its territory.

China says the establishment of the zone was "completely justified and legitimate", but it has been widely condemned.

America, which called the move a "destabilising attempt to alter the status quo in the region", flew two unarmed B-52 bombers through the zone unannounced on Tuesday.

China-Japan disputed islands:   The archipelago consists of five uninhabited islands and three reefs.  Japan, China
and Taiwan claim them; they are controlled by Japan and form part of Okinawa prefecture.   Japanese businessman
Kunioki Kurihara owned three of the islands but sold them to the Japanese state in September 2012.
The islands were also the focus of a major diplomatic row between Japan and China in 2010

South Korea's Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se said on Wednesday that it had made "already tricky regional situations even more difficult to deal with".

Seoul said one of its military planes also entered the zone on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Japan said its aircraft had conducted routine "surveillance activity" over the East China Sea zone, but did not specify when.

"Even since China has created this airspace defence zone, we have continued our surveillance activities as before in the East China Sea, including in the zone," said Japan's top government spokesman, Yoshihide Suga.

"We are not going to change this [activity] out of consideration to China," he added.

South Korea and China held talks on the zone on Thursday, but failed to reach any agreement. - BBC.

GLOBAL VOLCANISM: New Explosive Eruptions Reported At Japan's Suwanose-Jima Volcano As New Volcanic Island Continues To Grow!

November 28, 2013 - JAPAN - Explosive activity has resumed at the remote volcano in the Tokara Island chain. VAAC Tokyo reported explosions yesterday and this morning, with ash plumes rising to 4,000-6,000 ft (1.2-1.8 km) altitude. The last major eruption occurred in July of this year.

Japan’s volcanic island growing: The youngest island of the world continues to grow as the eruption continues. Recent footage shows (from 24 Nov) shows strombolian activity and a lava flow on the southeast flank of the small new cone. The strombolian activity often ejects glowing bombs that land in the sea water and create spray and leave short-lived areas of boiling water around them.

The longer the eruption continues in this so-called magmatic style (the vent being isolated from sea water, allowing the formation of welded scoria and lava flows), the greater the chances are that the island will survive wave erosion once the eruption stops. - Volcano Discovery.

PLANETARY TREMORS: Two Moderate Earthquakes Strike Along Dangerous Fault Under The Sea Of Marmara!

November 28, 2013 - TURKEY - The Sea of Marmara was shaken by two moderate earthquakes on Wednesday morning.

According to a statement made by the Prime Ministry’s Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD), an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 struck Marmara Ereglisi, near the city of Tekirdag at 6:21 a.m. and the same region was soon after hit by another quake with a magnitude of 4.1.

The statement added that earthquakes are observed 24/7 in the region and that the epicenter of Wednesday morning’s quake was 20 kilometers off of Marmara’s Ereğlisi coast. There have not been any casualties reported in the quakes. “In 1999, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake along the North Anatolian fault killed some 30,000 people in western Turkey. There is some evidence that another segment closer to the densely populated city of Istanbul could be next to rupture, which could create worse devastation.

In 2010, a team of Turkish, American and French scientists were on a Turkish research ship in the Sea of Marmara to image the faults and its overlying sediments to better assess the risk. The historic pattern suggests that the next quake should strike just south of Istanbul, beneath the Sea of Marmara. Here, the North Anatolian fault splinters into multiple fault strands, which created the depression that houses the present-day sea.”

MASS FISH DIE-OFF: The Latest Incidents In China - Over 30,000 POUNDS Of Fish Suddenly Die In Ponds In Foshan; And Massive Fish Die-Off Stretching Over 2km Of A River In Jiangxi?!

November 27, 2013 - CHINA - The following constitutes the latest incidents of mass fish die-offs in China:

Over 30,000 POUNDS Of Fish Suddenly Die In Ponds In Foshan.
Bo ponds, 30,000 kilos of grass carp, yellow bone fish almost died out camera / Zhang Wen

November 24, the Yangcheng Evening News reporter received a tip lines, Foshan nine Shou Jiang Zhenhai island a fish pond was poisoned, 30,000 kilos of grass carp and yellow bone fish died suddenly overnight. More seriously, the connection ponds sea Ting Chung connectivity Xijiang Xijiang toxic water fear will pollute the water.

24, the reporter came to the nine Jiang Haishou Island. Thousands of people living on less than this island, most of the residents are fishermen. Walking on the village road, stench blowing, a road next to the village pond, a milky white liquid floating on the water, pond full of dead fish gathered on the shore, which is the primary victim Area contracting ponds.

Bo told reporters, on the 22nd night, he saw his wife's own pond by the side of the village road suddenly have white liquid floating on the water, while fish ponds continue to turn to jump. Bo experienced couple instantly knew: the pond was poisoned. "We immediately alarm and immediately with water pumps pumping, but most of them poisoned fish ponds, and do not know what drugs, police also check out", so, five hours in the past, looking at the fish pond and Bo 30,000 kilograms of fish slowly turned belly, pains, "we are borrowing money to buy fish, there are grass carp and yellow bone fish, and even feeds are borrowed, 30,000 kilos of fish, we owe 30 million in debt and now the fish gone, the debt is also not on. "

Bo's wife told reporters, fish ponds after the accident, she specifically went to see another home ponds, "near the village ponds Avenue, this one for our trouble." She said, the village pond is not was first poisoned, and last year there were two ponds poisoning, "after each report is nothing."

The more serious than poisoning the fish ponds, sea Shou Island West River water from ponds and then flows through the sea Ting Chung, and ultimately to go back into the West River. 22 evening, and Bo is the home pond water discharged to the sea in the Bay Shou branch, affected nearly 2,000 meters Chung Ting sea level surface is also full of the bodies of fish and shrimp. Fortunately, the sea water Shou Chung moderate support, as well as in the West River inlet at a gate.

Publicity Office, Jiujiang Town, a deputy director of the White surname introduced that, at present, Jiujiang Forestry Service Center, police have Shou village and the sea is conducting a joint investigation, initially suspected human poisoning, the public security organs have been filed, "Currently, we have asked the village to do the deep processing of all the dead fish. " However, for the loss of Bo, the government is also helpless.

White director, said the public security organs have been sampling water quality, "Agroforestry Centre has made clear that, in the absence of test results, treatment and disposal of water quality is also not done before, will not release on." However, when the test results came out, white director, said even communicate. "Shou Island sea water ponds are relatively low, slow flowing river water intrusion phenomenon should not happen." - IFENG. [Translated]

Massive Fish Die-Off Stretching Over 2km Of A River In Jiangxi.

Dense dead fish floating in the Gan River, forming a two kilometers long "dead zone", a gust of wind blowing, blowing stench. Recently, the reporter found in the Gan River, Yu Zhang Gan Jiang Yingxiong Bridge to Bridge section, discovered a large area of dead fish, dead fish floating in the Gan River kilograms on both sides, and the scene is shocking.

Gan River is the mother river of Jiangxi, Nanchang is also the source of drinking water for millions of people, so many fish, strange deaths overnight, does that mean the Gan River is contaminated? What is the cause of fish death? How will deal with so many dead fish? For this series of questions, the reporter conducted a survey.

Reflect: a large number of dead fish appeared overnight GANJIANG

"This is how it is, there are so many overnight GANJIANG dead, really a pity." Recently, Mr. Chang, who lives near the Castle gates reflect the Morning, beginning from the 25th, Heroes Bridge and the Bridge of Yu Zhang Inter-emergent number of dead fish, but over time, gradually increasing the number of dead fish.

Mr. Zhang said he is a fishing enthusiast, usually prefer to have time Gan River fishing. 25, 2009, Mr. Zhang came to the river, to see the scene that he was surprised. A large number of dead fish the river, looking ahead, has been stretching to the end of the line of sight, but the scene is filled with a putrid odor. "I'm fishing in the Gan River for several years, never had this situation, and now I can not here fishing. Moreover Gan River is our drinking water sources, this really will not affect our drinking water safe? "
The reasons for the death of fish, Zhang speculated Castle gates and sewage discharge may be relevant. "Castle Gate sewage discharge was black, with a large number of floating garbage and foam, the river wind, an intense sour smell very pungent. Looked around, here GANJIANG river resembles a terrifying 'yin and yang face 'Here's sewage is likely to cause massive death of fish. "

Scene: dead fish stretches two kilometers wide variety

Yesterday, the reporter went to the Gan River to visit. In Heroes Bridge downstream reporter from afar, I saw one floating on the river white spots, closer, was actually a strip of dead fish turned belly.

On the beach near the river and the water, a large dead fish and garbage mixed together, mostly rotten smell, the taste is very unpleasant. Since the days of sun, dead fish on the beach has shriveled, the top covered with flies. These fish variety, there are carp, carp, grass carp and so on. Reporter survey along the river, the basic distribution of dead fish found in these heroic Yu Zhang Gan River Bridge to Bridge, two kilometers long.

Reporters go to Gan River downstream from the bridge hero, found on Castle Gate, Yu Zhang Bridge near the beach and the water were densely covered with dead fish, sun drying, the majority of shore fish has become a dried fish.

Reporters along the way, found the river and even the formation of a two kilometers long "dead zone", a gust of wind blowing, blowing stench. Most of the dead were three or four pounds heavier grass carp, carp, and even half a meter long fish. Most of the dead fish have been rotten smelly, full of flies around, is very sick.

Guess one: Gan Jiang is a lot of dead fish, algae caused by eutrophication

"There are a lot of people had come here fishing, appeared dead after basically no one came, even if we catch a fish, fish live in water where we dare not eat them." According to local residents, the current river side basically can not see people fishing.

Nearby residents also revealed that the Gan River such a large area of dead fish appeared the first time. I regret the public concern: "there are so many dead fish, it will not affect the safety of drinking water?"

So, why are so many sudden and massive fish deaths? Currently, Nanchang Hydrology Bureau, environmental monitoring detachment and fishery sector workers are to investigate evidence Gan River, because a large number of dead fish remains to be further investigated.

Two days ago, members of the public to reflect, Gan Jiang Nanchang section of the waters near Riverside hotel appeared a large green algae, green algae and dead fish are then associated with it?

In this regard, Nanchang Fishery Bureau official said, because the autumn season Gan River water level drops, the water flow is inferior to the spring and summer season, plus there are a number of life along the Yangtze River Gan sewage outfall, inadequate sewage diluted over time, prone to algae.

"Gan Jiang river described a large number of green algae 'eutrophication' serious." Insiders said the algae pollution occurs mainly due to the water rich in nitrogen and phosphorus, and its main source of domestic sewage, sewage discharge often leads to algae, etc. a large number of plant growth, resulting in reduction of oxygen in the water, which may be one cause of fish death.

Guess 2: Castle gates and other long-term discharges cause fish deaths

In addition, there are also people reflect, fish kills and sewage Castle gates are likely related emissions.

Reporters found just near Castle Gate, on the oncoming stench, dark green water pouring out from the outfall, which mixed with household waste. Reporters noted that the sewage outfall at Castle Gate no signs of fish life, in less than 500 meters away from this downstream, there are dead fish began to appear.

"You see, so much so dark and smelly sewage discharged to the Gan River, where the fish can stand?" According to nearby residents, the sewage discharged from Castle Gate perennial Gan River, generally no one will be there fishing, and on Not far downstream in Castle Gate, it is the beginning of a film where the fish died.
These water come from? Will it be one of the Gan River fish's death? Will have an impact on the public safety of drinking water? With these questions, the reporter linked to the Nanchang environmental monitoring detachment, the detachment of the two chief Gong Peng said: "There is no large factories near the Castle Gate sewage is discharged, as these will cause sewage Gan River fish death is unclear, we tested the water scene, but the test results probably had 30 days to come out. "

Progress: dead fish fishery sector has not contaminate drinking water cleanup

So many dead on both sides to get together in the Gan River, mostly rotten stink, whether this will affect the public drinking water? And how so many dead fish properly handled? To solve this problem, the reporter Nanchang water supply, fishery sector were consulted.

Reporters from the relevant departments of Jiangxi Seong water industry learned that because the water intakes located upstream and downstream system where dead fish appeared, both eighty-nine kilometers apart, it will not affect people's daily drinking water.

"These dead fish stretches about 23 km, about a million pounds, so whether it is certainly not." Luo Nanchang Fisheries Fishery Bureau, deputy director, said after receiving the report that they have organized personnel dead yesterday conduct cleanup.

Yesterday afternoon, the reporter on the scene saw the council dispatched boats and salvage equipment to clean up the dead fish along the river. "Salvaged dead fish will choose the right place and properly buried and planted lime to disinfect." Walking on the village road, stench blowing, a road next to the village pond, a milky white liquid floating on the water, pond full of dead fish gathered on the shore, which is the primary victim Area contracting ponds.

"Salvaged dead fish will choose the right place and properly buried and planted lime to disinfect." Lo, deputy director, said due to the large number of dead fish, all finished fishing need couple of days. - JX News. [Translated]
